I fully realize that these are not the ten best albums of 2011 (ie no Bon Iver, Drake), nor are they the most important (ie no Radiohead or Kanye/Jay-Z), but they are the ten I most enjoy listening to (at least at this moment).
Without further adieu:
10. The Black Keys - El Camino - This wouldn’t have made my list last week, but I had some quality time with the Black Keys this week in my car. They’re a pretty great band, and fun to listen to. Favorite jam: Run Right Back
9. Coldplay - Mylo Xyloto - If you don’t like Coldplay, it’s because you either don’t have good taste in music or you’re a douchebag who thinks you’re not supposed to like Coldplay. Sorry, but it’s true. This album isn’t their best, but it’s still pretty darn good. Favorite jam: Charlie Brown
8. Yuck - Yuck - This is the kind of bank that I feel like is going to make a really great album in like two years and then get nominated for a best new artist grammy. As it is, I really like this album, but I think it could’ve been better produced, as it sounds kind of rough at times. Favorite jam: Operation
7. Foster the People - Torches - I love Pumped Up Kicks like everyone else does, but there’s plenty of good stuff on this album. Favorite jam: Houdini
6. Cold War Kids - Mine is Yours - When this album first came out, I listened to it constantly. It’s a really good album, but I did tire of it a little. There’s also two songs on it that kind of suck. Favorite jam: Bulldozer
5. Florence + the Machine - Ceremonials - I’ve been listening to this it a lot lately. I think it’s better than Lungs and Flo has some pipes. I really like the production, as well. Favorite jam: Shake It Out
4. Childish Gambino - Camp - Donald Glover is absolutely hilarious, but he’s also a damn good rapper. The flows in this album are hot, but at the same time, he’s incredibly honest. Favorite jam: Fire Fly
3. Explosions in the Sky - Take Care, Take Care, Take Care - I love everything about this band, especially their love shows. Favorite jam: Postcards from 1952
2. M83 - Hurry Up We’re Dreaming - A two disc masterpiece that includes my jam of the year. Favorite jam: Midnight City
1. The Lonely Forrest - Arrows - I had never heard of this band until hearing them on an All Songs Considered podcast. I downloaded this album and love every song on it. Just a really fun album. Favorite jam: (I Am) The Love Skeptic
